Hello Design Enthusiast!

I’m happy to be back and writing again. I’ve had some difficulty in the past couple weeks wrapping my head around what’s happening in our country. I’m a sensitive person, and watching so many unfortunate events unfold in front of my eyes has honestly been very painful for me. My brother is a police officer and some of the people who I am the closest to, are people of color. I will admit, that for a few days in the past two weeks, I couldn’t do anything in regards to the One Room Challenge. I spent my time reaching out to loved ones, learning a lot, and supporting causes in the ways I can. Generally, I’m a person who can immerse myself in a project to block out negative feelings and realities, but in light of current events, that just hasn't an option for me this time. In the past couple of days, I’ve tried to get back to business as usual, but still find myself to be a distracted. So, full disclosure, I haven’t made a ton of progress. I’m sure the next week or so is going to be massively intense as I try to tie up loose ends see this project to completion, but I’m giving myself a lot of grace in regards to the things that I haven’t checked off my list so far. I really appreciate you checking back in on my progress, and I appreciate you taking a moment to read a bit about my human experience as opposed to just design work. I’m so grateful for that.

Hi, I'm Heather-Scherie.JPG

Welcome!

If you’re new here, Hi! I’m Heather-Scherie. I’ve been a professional Interior Designer for what feels like eons now. I’m the owner of Whitestone Design Group based in the Greater Seattle Area. I’m a lover of DIY’s, all things design, and life in general. I have two delectable little boys, ages one and three, and am the wife to my handsome hubs that embraces all my needs to turn everything into a project!

What’s Been Completed

Flooring - Well, I finally finished the flooring! It looks fantastic and I’m so happy with it! Unfortunately, we’re at the point, we’re I’m going to have to start keeping a few things a bit of a secret in order to really pack a punch on reveal day! The flooring transition, thus far, is one of my favorite parts of this project, so I’m going to hold onto those images for a few more weeks.

Doors - My doors are almost done! They just need one final coat of paint and it looks like our local hardware rental shop is finally open! I want to spray them so they have a beautiful, clean finish, so I need to wrap that up as soon as possible. But, as of now, I’m really happy with how they look and can’t wait to share the final product with you all!

Bed - I built and reupholstered a BED! I can’t believe it. I feel like my inspiration for this entire project came from this gorgeous printed fabric by Holli Zollinger. I ordered the fabric from Spoonflower and was blown away by the quality and pleased with how dramatic the print looked large scale. I had to really put my sewing skills to the test, but I’ve given myself 5 gold stars on how well I was able to match up my pattern so that the fabric would be wide enough to cover the headboard and bed rails. I have a little trim detail left that needs to be finished up, but for the most part, it’s done and I’m so happy with it. And super proud!

What’s Left

Meaningful Art - The pretty part! The fun part. Styling the space up to be photoshoot ready and add all the elements that make it feel like mine and like home. Unfortunately, in the greater Seattle Area, we’re still very much on lock down due to Covid-19. So, heading out to find those special little gems that finish the space off, isn't really an option. But, the internet is a beautiful thing and I’ve been ordering some goodies that I think will work out nicely. I’ve found some beautiful pieces of art that really speak to culture and the beauty of inclusion that I wanted to share with you all. I love minimal art. And I love abstract art.

Details and Decor - Picture Frames, plants, pillows, and such. Time to source and tackle all the little details and make them all work together.

Nightstands - So, one major design flaw has occurred. These things happen, so I’m trying not to beat myself up for it too badly, but the nightstands I owned aren’t going to work now. With the door being moved to the master bathroom, it really changes the amount of space that can be occupied by a bedside table. The nightstands that I “makeover” are about 25” wide and 20” deep. That massively impedes on the entryway to the bathroom, so they’re out. Back to the drawing board with not much time!! I can’t believe I made such a silly mistake! So, now my options are to buy something and do a rush order. Build something. Find something temporary from a box store (not my favorite option). Or, design something custom and wait it out and not have it for shoot day. As a professional designer, I would advise my clients to do it right and wait it out, so that’s what I think I’m gong to do. I really think the best fit is going to be a floating nightstand on either side of the bed, so that’s the direction I’m going to go and there’s a strong likelihood I won’t have them on shoot day. BUMMER! I’m letting it go though and trusting that it’s all going to work out just fine. In the end, it’s just furniture!

Filling the Closest - Time to do some major editing and donating! I always love this part. Having everything out really gives me the opportunity to review each item of clothing, accessory and pair of shoes to see if they still belong in my wardrobe. So, this week I’ll be getting both mine and my husbands garments back where they belong so I can stop running downstairs everyday to get dressed! Not that the exercise isn’t appreciated.

Dress the Bed - I love making a beautiful bed!! I’m beyond excited to get all the new linens out and dress the bed!!

Install the Window Treatments - I pray they make it on time! Seems like most things are a little delayed these days.

I’m sure that there are other things that will pop up, but I’m hoping that I’m in the home stretch now! I can see the end and the vision come to fruition and I can’t wait to share you how it’s all come together!

Stay healthy and happy my friends. And lets all treat each other with kindness.

- happy designing -
