Fall 2020 One Room Challenge | Week 2

Well, here we are Week 2 into the Fall One Room Challenge and I’m already feeling the pressure as if it were Week 5! Sick kids, last minute changes and shipping issues all have me stressed out beyond belief! And to think, I wanted to do this challenge this time around as a nice break from the mundane and have a little fun?! I’m not feeling so much “fun” this week, but maybe after I get through this hell week, I’ll get my mindset and attitude back on track. I tend to find my groove in the DIY projects and the actual implementation so here’s to looking forward!

The Design Plan

I’m keeping the design clean, simple and really leaning into a Pacific Northwest Vibe. Little boys like a LOT of things, so I’m hoping that by giving him a neutral palette, his personal taste of whatever he’s into at any given time will be able to easily be layered in and taken out once he’s over it.

Space Plan

I really want to maximize the floorspace so that my little guy and his brother will have plenty of room to just play in here. I’m keeping the furniture low and light to accommodate for toddler height and making sure to keep toy storage simple so that the boys can start to learn the responsibility of helping to clean up after themselves.

If you’re not familiar with what the One Room Challenge is, let me fill you in real quick. Each season, (Fall and Spring), twenty featured designers are selected to share their talents with all of those who love design and a serious Before & After. Be sure to check in on those folks right here and be ready to be inspired! In addition, other lovers of design, DIYers, Designers and everyone in between are invited to participate as Guest Participants to show off their projects on the hosts site as well. You can see all of the other spectacular talent here.

welcome!

If you’re new here, hello! I’m Heather-Scherie. I’ve been a professional Interior Designer for forEVER now and I’m one of the owners of the Whitestone Design Group based in the Greater Seattle Area. I’m a lover of DIY’s, all things design, and great adventures. I have two irresistible little boys, ages two and four, and am the wife to my handsome hubs. My approach to life is not to take anything too seriously and find the joy in every second of it!

Now that the details are all nailed down, it’s time for this girl to roll up her sleeves and start getting her hands dirty! Some things have already started to arrive - some great and some not so great. I definitely think that the most difficult part of doing a little boys room is editing! There are waaaaay too many cute things out there for little people. It’s going to be tough! There’s a lot to do, but I’m going to try to keep things reasonable this week in order to feel like I’ve got some wins under my belt. Here’s what I think I’ll be able to get checked off the list before I see you all next.

This Week

  1. Start building the climbing wall

  2. Installing the wallpaper in the closet. I know the custom detailing is going to be really time consuming, so I need to get that done asap.

  3. Paint - if time allows

  4. Order all remaining items - things are taking forever, so I have ZERO time to waste.

Okay, so sorry to keep this post short, but there’s no time like the present and this mama has WORK to do! I can’t wait to check in and see how all the other participants are doing and I hope you will too. See you all next week!

Happy Designing
